Ex-Wigan Striker Camara Linked Again - Ipswich Town News

Former Wigan striker Henri Camara is again linked with the Blues in a number of this morning's tabloids. TWTD first reported that the 32-year-old frontman was being targeted by Town last week.

Camara is a free agent having been released by the Latics at the end of the season. The Senegalese international started his senior career in France with RC Strasbourg in 1998, moving on to play in Swiss football a year later with Neuchâtel Xamax and Grasshoppers Zürich. In 2003 he returned to France when he signed for Sedan.

In 2003 he joined Wolves where he spent two years and went on loan spells at Celtic and Southampton. The 5ft 10in tall striker then moved to Wigan during which time he joined West Ham and Stoke on loan.

Camara has been capped 99 times by Senegal, scoring 29 goals, and appeared at the 2002 World Cup and the 2004, 2006 and 2008 African Nations Cups.

Meanwhile, Jordan Rhodes, who netted Town's second goal against Colchester on Saturday, says his first target for the season is to get on the scoresheet regularly as a sub: "Getting on for the last 20 minutes and scoring a goal is what I have to do. It is the up to the manager to decide but for now I'm happy to come on and score in front of the North Stand.

"If I can do that when the season starts then there will be no better feeling. I want to play for this football club. I want to play for Ipswich Town and score in front of the North Stand. That is my dream. I will take it a step at a time but that is what I want.”

Rhodes and the rest of the first team squad are training at Portman Road this morning before making the trip to London for tonight's friendly at Charlton (KO 7.45pm).

Elsewhere, ex-Blue Darren Bent is closing in on a move from Spurs to Sunderland after the clubs agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £15 million for the striker. Bent was on board a plane at Heathrow heading to China for Tottenham's pre-season tour when the deal was struck and left the flight at the last minute to travel to Wearside to discuss terms.
