Rhodes Set to Join Huddersfield - Ipswich Town News

Striker Jordan Rhodes is close to completing a shock move to League One Huddersfield Town. The frontman held talks with the Terriers yesterday regarding personal terms and is reported to have undergone a medical.

Huddersfield boss Lee Clark has confirmed his interest in Rhodes and says his club are making progress on a signing: "We have had reports done on different people while we've been out doing our scouting and Rhodes is a player like hundreds we have watched over the months. There is a huge list of players at the club who we have had watched.

"All I can say is that there was a little bit of movement yesterday on a player we were talking to and a deal is possibly a little bit closer, but until the contracts are signed these days you are better off not making any comment because you never know what can happen.”

Earlier this week, manager Roy Keane revealed he had turned down a bid from one of two clubs interested in Rhodes, who has made 10 sub appearances but no starts for the Blues, scoring one goal.

We understand the deal is worth £850,000 and not the lower figure reported elsewhere with the Galpharm Stadium club offering the former Barnsley academy schoolboy a four-year deal.

Rhodes had been widely tipped to make his mark on the Town first team this year having progressed through the academy sides and reserves. Last season he spent successful loan spells at Rochdale and Brentford, helping the Bees to win League Two.

The 19-year-old, who went on loan to Oxford United in 2007, was left out of the Town side which travelled to Charlton on Tuesday and was absent yesterday when the squad trained with the army at Colchester.

Rhodes joined the Blues from Barnsley's academy in March 2005 for a fee of £5,000 after his father Andy had become Town's goalkeeper-coach.

Manager Roy Keane has said he plans to add to his strikers this summer and overnight TWTD revealed the Blues' interest in Watford's Tamás Priskin. With additional senior strikers coming in and 16-year-old Connor Wickham set to push into the first team on a regular basis this season, Keane may feel that Rhodes's opportunities would be limited at Town, even if one or both of Pablo Couñago and Kevin Lisbie leave.

Elsewhere, Town, Swansea, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Leeds are all said to be interested in signing Liverpool winger Adam Hammill.

The 21-year-old ex-England U19 international had spells on loan at Blackpool and Barnsley last season, having spent much of the previous campaign at Southampton and having been sent out to Dunfermline a year earlier.

Meanwhile, a report claims that former Wigan striker Henri Camara has turned down a move to the Blues after a deal had been agreed with the free agent. TWTD reported Town's interest in the Senegalese striker a week ago.
