Town could face opposition from Peterborough United for the signature of Bohemians midfielder Gary Deegan. Posh boss Darren Ferguson made a trip to Ireland at the weekend and caught the 21-year-old in action.
Ferguson didn’t see much of the highly rated youngster as he was sent off after 22 minutes for a stamp, but the Peterborough boss says watching Deegan wasn’t the main focus of his trip: "Deegan is a good player and a lot of clubs are after him so I took the opportunity to have a look. Unfortunately he only lasted 20 minutes or so, but he wasn't the main reason for the trip.
"We're looking for some sort of tie-up with Bohemians so we had a couple of meetings about that before watching the match. There is a great deal of young talent in Ireland and we want to be active over there."
Town boss Roy Keane recently confirmed his interest in the former Shelbourne, Kilkenny, Longford and Galway man: "You could put him in the bracket of a potential target.”
Deegan, first linked with the Blues in July, is out of contract at the end of the Irish season in November, but if he moves on his former clubs would be due compensation because of his age.
Last month, TWTD revealed that Bohemians keeper Brian Murphy is set to join the club in November when his contract with the League of Ireland club is up. Neither player would be able to sign formally until the transfer window reopens in January.
Meanwhile, from today Football League clubs are able to sign players on an emergency loan basis for up to 93 days.
