Southgate Hoping to Add to Squad Before Town Match - Ipswich Town News

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has confirmed that he hopes to add one or two loan players to his squad prior to Saturday’s game with the Blues. Town defender Gareth McAuley is amongst a number of players being linked with Boro.

Southgate said: "We're still very active at the moment trying to strengthen the squad with loans.

"I still only want to bring in he right types and if we bring in loan signings it will be geared towards potential permanent signings at the end of it.

"There's a good chance we could have someone in for Saturday, although whether it will be in time for him to start remains to be seen."

Southgate is reportedly close to adding Everton striker James Vaughan to his squad, while McAuley is one of a number of central defenders linked, along with Blackburn’s Zurab Khizanishvili, Sheffield United’s Matthew Killgallon and Preston’s Sean St Ledger.

If McAuley is on Boro's list of potential signings, it's unlikely that the Blues would allow the move until another senior defender has been added to the squad and until after Saturday's match.

Elsewhere, former Town loanee Giovani Dos Santos says he feels his career is starting to move in the right direction at Tottenham: "In the past things did not go the way I would have liked but the truth is I began working harder every day until I improved and, thanks to God, things have been improving.”

Dos Santos was linked with a return to Portman Road earlier in the summer, but Harry Redknapp recently said he would come into his plans at White Hart Lane this season.

Ipswich Town 1-1 Watford - Match Report
Town spurned a succession of second-half chances as they drew 1-1 with Watford at Portman Road. Imran Louza gave the Hornets the lead in the 16th minute but the Blues hit back through Jaden Philogene five minutes later. While chances had been few and far between in the first half, Town had plenty in a second period they dominated but failed to find what would have been a deserved winner.
