McAuley Again Linked With Blades - Ipswich Town News

Sheffield United are again reported to be keen on signing Town central defender Gareth McAuley on loan. Earlier in the week, the Blades and Middlesbrough were both linked with the Northern Irishman.

The South Yorkshire club are said to see McAuley as a replacement for Matthew Kilgallon, who is reportedly on his way to either Newcastle or Wigan, although a move to the Premier League Latics couldn’t take place until the transfer window opens again in January.

Although it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see McAuley move on, it’s unlikely that Town would allow the 29-year-old to depart without first signing another senior central defender on loan.

Close to the end of the transfer window, the Blues were chasing Sheffield Wednesday’s Richard Wood, but the Owls now appear confident that their former captain will sign a new contract at Hillsborough.
