Keane Refuses to Be Drawn on Shittu - Ipswich Town News
Town boss Roy Keane has refused to comment on reports linking Bolton centre-half Danny Shittu with a move to Portman Road. Keane is looking to add two loanees to his squad, but won’t have secured the signings before Tuesday’s home game against his former club Nottingham Forest.
At this morning’s press conference ahead of the Forest game, Keane wouldn’t be drawn on the widespread national newspaper reports claiming that Shittu is amongst his loan targets: "I certainly won’t comment on players at other football clubs, there’s no chance of me doing that.
"There’s lots of stuff in newspapers every single day and if I was to comment on every player we’ve been linked with over the summer, I’d be chatting to you far too often.”
The Blues boss, showing little sign of feeling any pressure despite Town’s lowly league position, says that the new additions could be at Portman Road by the weekend: "I’m still very hopeful. There’ll be a few more calls over the next few days and fingers crossed we can get one or two more into the club.
"There’s still one or two areas I think we’re short in, people can second guess where that might be, but the staff and myself are working extremely hard to try and bring one or two players into the club.
"But if it doesn’t happen we’ll persevere with the decent lads I’ve got here who are giving everything they’ve got for the football club, but are just coming up a bit short at the moment.”
