Wickham Misses Plymouth and Derby After Joining Up With England - Ipswich Town News

Striker Connor Wickham will miss Town’s games against Plymouth and Derby after joining up with the England squad for their UEFA European U17 Championships first qualifying round group games in Baku, Azerbaijan. Wickham has joined up with the squad late after coming on as a sub during last night’s 1-1 draw against Watford.

The England youngsters take on Kazakhstan on October 26th, the hosts two days later and Serbia on October 31st.

Earlier in the season, Wickham was pulled out of the England U17 squad playing in a friendly tournament in the Midlands to play in the games against Peterborough and Preston and last season Town withdrew him from an U16 party so he could make his senior debut against Doncaster.

Wickham has already won four caps at U17 level, scoring one goal, having played at the Nordic Tournament in Denmark in 2008 in which England annually field an U16 squad despite the competition being for the older age group.

England U17s: Benik Afobe (Arsenal), Ross Barkley (Everton), Saido Berahino (West Bromwich Albion), Jack Butland (Birmingham City), Nathaniel Chalobah (Chelsea), Luke Garbutt (Everton), Sam Johnstone (Manchester United), William Keane (Manchester United), Louis Laing (Sunderland), Josh McEachran (Chelsea), Ravel Morrison (Manchester United), Bruno Pilatos (Middlesbrough), Jack Robinson (Liverpool), George Thorne (West Bromwich Albion), Tom Thorpe (Manchester United), Connor Wickham (Ipswich Town), Luke Williams (Middlesbrough), Andre Wisdom (Liverpool).
