Trio Help Northern Ireland Through to Next Phase - Ipswich Town News
Academy trio Josh Carson (pictured), Rory McKeown and Cormac Burke helped Northern Ireland’s U17s into the elite phase of UEFA U17 Championships qualifying despite losing 1-0 to Holland in their final game in Andorra earlier today.
Midfielders Carson and Burke started the game with full-back McKeown coming off the bench just before half-time. All three were winning their fifth U17 caps.
Two 2-0 victories over Malta and Andorra, in which Carson netted three goals, saw the Northern Irish youngsters to second place in the group behind the Dutch and through to March’s elite qualifying group phase.
Town striker Connor Wickham and England's U17s are in action against hosts Azerbaijan in their second qualifying group game on Wednesday, having defeated Kazakhstan 6-2 in their opening match.
