Chief executive Simon Clegg says Town's operating loss of operating loss of £10 million in the year to June 2009 doesn't mean that the club isn't being run efficiently. Clegg was speaking to TWTD after yesterday’s Supporters Club AGM.
Clegg says the loss is the result of the Marcus Evans's ongoing investment in the squad: "We have invested in the playing stock. Those results are for the last financial year and it’s recognised that Jim was given the opportunity to bring in a lot of new players and the player wage bill increased substantially.
"But we are running this club on a tight financial model and are lucky to have the support of Marcus Evans to ensure that despite that tight financial model, we can continue to invest in the playing stock to deliver the results we’re after.
"The club continues to be beholden to the financial support Marcus Evans is giving and Marcus has made it very clear that he’s committed for the long-term.”
Meanwhile, also speaking at last night’s Supporters Club AGM, manager Roy Keane dismissed suggestions that Owen Garvan is completely out of the first team picture.
Keane says the Irish U21 skipper will get his chance again if he impresses in training and in the reserves: "Owen Garvan hasn’t done enough to get in my first team at this moment in time.
"He played in the reserves at Watford the other day and didn’t do enough to get himself in my first team for next weekend.”
