Town are keen on making a move for Bolton midfielder Gavin McCann, according to one of this morning’s tabloids.
The 31-year-old is currently out of the first team picture at the Reebok Stadium and manager Gary Megson is understood to be willing to allow the one-time England international to move either on loan now or permanently in January.
McCann hasn’t played for Wanderers since early October and was recently reported to be training with the reserves. The former Everton, Sunderland and Aston Villa man is out of contract next summer. Blackpool-born McCann’s one England cap came in a friendly in Spain in 2001.
On Friday morning, Town boss Roy Keane said that he doesn’t expect to make any more signings before the emergency loan deadline of November 26th, the deal to bring in Bohemians keeper Brian Murphy, which was confirmed on Friday afternoon, having been done back in August.
Elsewhere, on-loan defender Jack Ainsley was an unused sub as Rushden and Diamonds beat Hinckley 3-1 in the FA Cup on Saturday. Ainsley joined the Blue Square Premier side until January on Friday morning.
Fellow Blue Kevin Lisbie was rested by Colchester, despite Town giving permission for him to play in their FA Cup tie at Bromley. The U’s won 4-0.
