Bruce a Doubt for Cardiff Trip - Ipswich Town News
Central defender Alex Bruce is a doubt for Sunday's trip to Cardiff City with a recurrence of the groin injury he suffered earlier in the season. The Irish international was replaced by Gareth McAuley during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.
Boss Roy Keane told the club site: "We will have more of an idea later this week but it's a groin injury and it looks a similar one to last time."
Bruce told TWTD in an exclusive interview in the latest issue of the fanzine, which you can buy here, that he actually picked up the problem in the match at Doncaster: "I felt my groin towards the end of the Doncaster game and again a little bit in training through the week.
"I thought it wasn’t right but with the Newcastle game coming up [the following Saturday] I thought that once I was out there on the pitch with the crowd behind me I’d get away with it.
"But when it’s a muscle injury it just gets worse and that was the case. I started the game and the first sprint I made I felt it and it got worse and worse and eventually it was so sore I had to come off.
"It’s a lesson I’ve learnt; you can’t get away with playing with muscle injuries. You might get away with a kick or a bang but a muscle strain you’ve just got to give them rest and let them heal themselves.”
