Clegg Named Help for Heroes Ambassador - Ipswich Town News

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has been named one of the Football League’s ambassadors for their official charity partner for 2009/10, Help for Heroes.

Simon Clegg, a Major with the Colchester-based 7th Parachute Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery, says he is pleased to be taking the new role: "I am delighted that this initiative which links two important components of my career will allow me to contribute to such a worthwhile cause.

"At a time when the demands and cost to our Armed Forces have seldom been higher, it is important that we do everything possible for those injured on our behalf. Help for Heroes does extraordinary work and I hope the tie-in with our national sport will provide a massive boost to the charity and those that they support.”

Other ambassadors include former Lincoln City, Peterborough United and Chester City striker Simon Yeo, who spent time in the forces, seeing action in Bosnia and Northern Ireland, Nottingham Forest defender Aaron Mitchell, who lost his brother Lance Corporal Keiron Hill in Helmand province, Afghanistan, and former Cardiff and Lincoln man Phil Stant. The striker is both a former professional footballer and SAS Bomb Disposal Expert, who saw action in the Falklands War.

The ambassadors’ role is to promote the work of the charity, representing the partnership at events such as the play-off and Carling Cup finals, raising awareness of the charity and as much money as possible for personnel injured in the service of their country.
