Striker Pablo Couñago says he knew precisely what he had to do when he got his late, late chance to win Saturday’s home game against Coventry. Couñago netted his second goal of the season, chipping the ball over Keiren Westwood and into the net to seal a dramatic 3-2 win for the Blues.
The Spaniard told the club site: "As soon as I controlled the ball, in my head I knew what I wanted to do. The keeper was very close to me and there was a lot of space to go for it so I tried it and I was very happy to see it go in.
"It was a special moment for me, of course, but it's more important for the team. It is always the team that counts.
"We know we need to win games and it may have been with the last kick but I think we deserved the three points."
Couñago admitted that Coventry’s equaliser had been a hammer blow: "We were very down when they scored their second goal but football can be unpredictable and sometimes fantastic things can happen.
"It looked like two points dropped but we had one minute left and luckily that was enough to get the winner.
Fellow frontman Stern John was pleased to get his first Town goal having failed to find the net since scoring for Bristol City at Portman Road in December 2008: "A striker is judged by the goals he scores.
"That's 32 games since my last goal, so it's a relief to score. I was not living up to my standards, because I've always been accustomed to scoring goals. But I wasn't that worried, because I'd been playing well the last couple of games.”
John’s second month on loan is up on January 30th.
