Keane Supports Local Guide Dogs Appeal - Ipswich Town News

Town boss Roy Keane has dipped into his own pocket to take the Evening Star’s guide dog appeal to its target of £25,000. Keane is a long-time patron of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Learning that the appeal was only £350 from its target, Keane pledged the additional cash, which completes the funding for a third Star guide dog, Faith, who met the Blues boss at Playford Road yesterday.

Keane explained why he is such a big supporter of guide dog charities: "I have met people who have got guide dogs and what we take for granted, our independence, these dogs give these people.

"There are lots of worthy causes out there, but the guide dog organisation is fantastic."

Penny Parker, branch co-ordinator for the East & Mid Suffolk Guide Dog Fundraising Branch, said: "We are very impressed and thank him very much for his support.”

The Town manager, who has two dogs, Labrador Triggs, who is nine this week, and German Shepherd Izac, two, says they are important members of the Keane family: "They play a massive part in my life and my kids’ lives. They are very much part of our household - they run it sometimes!”

The Blues boss says his dogs are loving life in Suffolk: "Absolutely brilliant. We are very lucky here. I think my dogs have certainly enjoyed the scenery.”
