4 Million Spaniard on Way - Ipswich Town News

George Burley has revealed that the mystery midfielder is an international Spanish player and that he has had a fee, thought to be £4 million, agreed for the player. Personal terms are being worked out and Town will announce the name of the player once all that is sorted out.

The name being put forward as the most likely candidate is Francisco Gonzalez or Fran, who plays for Deportivo La Coruña. The left winger has been with his club since 1988, but they may be prepared to part with him. He has made 15 appearances for Spain and is 31-years-old.

George Burley said today: "We have agreed a fee with a Spanish club for an international player and are now negotiating terms with the agent."

He added: "I think the player is the right one for us and I am endeavouring to get the deal tied up as quickly as possible."

The deal looks likely to be concluded when the team return from the tour. If anyone has any more info on Fran or any other suggestions on who the player might be we'd more than welcome them.
