Wright Set for Second Reserves Game at Wycombe - Ipswich Town News

Richard Wright is set to play the second game of his comeback from injury this evening when the reserves travel to Maidenhead’s York Road to face Wycombe Wanderers for the second time in a week (KO 7pm). Wright injured knee ligaments in the game at Cardiff in November.

Boss Roy Keane felt the former England keeper did reasonably well in last Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to the Chairboys at Playford Road but was inevitably lacking a bit of sharpness: "He did OK, but considering it was his first game back he was obviously a little rusty.

"I watched the game and spoke to the goalkeeper-coach afterwards and there’s more to come from Wrighty, he knows that.

"But he deserves a lot of credit for the fact that he’s playing because he’s certainly ahead of schedule.”

Keane says Wright is still a little way away from returning to the first team bench: "That’s a few weeks off yet.”

Lee Martin, Alan Quinn, Ed Upson, Tom Eastman, Troy Brown and Reggie Lambe are also expected to be in the Town line-up. Former Blue Matt Bloomfield is in the Wycombe squad.

Meanwhile, current number one Brian Murphy’s Republic of Ireland are the first senior side into action during the international week when they face Brazil at the Emirates Stadium this evening (ITV1 8pm).

The former Bohemians keeper looks unlikely to win his first cap with Shay Given set to start.

Murphy is one of nine senior or academy players away on international duty this week.
