Skipper Jon Walters has admitted that he has not been at his best this season and says the Blues still have work to do to avoid relegation. Walters was made skipper of Roy Keane’s side in October but has rarely been at his best either when playing in midfield or up front.
Walters said: "I've not had the best of seasons as typified when I missed a first half header on Tuesday. If that had gone in - and I was well placed - it would have made a big difference.
"Without a shadow of doubt I have come up short and although I've scored six goals it should have been a lot more.
"I've played a few different roles and as captain I've adopted a different approach at times, but that's no excuse for being under par.”
Walters feels that the summer could see significant changes at Portman Road: "The manager and the whole staff will have to take stock now and at the end of the season and see where we are.
"Players that are currently here on loan may not be available next season and there may be some clearing out to do.”
But before then, the club captain says there is more immediate work to be done: "We mustn't kid ourselves, we're still fighting for our lives to stay in the Championship.”
