Burley Denies Rommedahl Link - Ipswich Town News

George Burley has denied that the Blues are interested in PSV's Danish winger Dennis Rommedahl. A number of sources had suggested that Rommedahl was a player being looked at.

The Town manager watched a three-team Italian tournament on Friday which involved Juventus, Napoli and Atalanta. He said he was looking at a number of players, but that nothing was likely to happen on this front immediately. Chances are a left-sided midfielder might have been amongst the players interesting the Town manager.

The Town boss is determined to spend his transfer war-chest wisely. The Town boss made an offer for Paris St Germain's left-sided midfielder Laurent Robert, but he was out of Town's price-range. Burley says: "We do have money to spend but spending money does not necessarily guarantee success. We have a good record of bringing players through at Ipswich Town and that will continue. I looked at Laurent Robert playing for Paris St Germain in the Intertoto Cup and he scored a hat-trick. But we have to buy what we can afford. It is the wage demands mainly that we cannot match. We are up against clubs who have far more money and we have to accept that. We have to bring in the right players at the right price that will settle within our wage structure."

Laurent looks likely to join Newcastle, where chairman Freddie Shepherd has denied Kieron Dyer is for sale for the 400th time this summer.

Nigerian Finidi George is still expected at the club on Wednesday with all negotiations going well between the two clubs. According to the Spanish media a fee of £3.7 million has been agreed.

Suffolk County Council have decided to suspend work on the A1214 to prevent hold-ups for fans travelling to Portman Road for the PSV friendly.

Work started on July 24th on the section of road between the Tesco roundabout and the Post House hotel.

Although there will be no work being carried out on Saturday there will be coned off areas so leave in plenty of time or find some other way of getting there.
