On-loan defender Pim Balkestein was stretchered off after being treated on the pitch for 10 minutes as Brentford lost 3-2 to Swindon at the County Ground. The Dutchman was taken off wearing a neckbrace while oxygen and spinal boards were brought on to the field after a mid-air collision with Robins striker Charlie Austin.
Brentford’s official website says the former Heerenveen man went to hospital to have a nose problem checked out: "The Bees' boss [Andy Scott] explained Pim Balkestein had been taken to hospital as he had a problem with his nose and they would find out in due course has happened to him.
"It is understood he also complained of neck pain after a mid-air collision with Charlie Austin and had to be stretchered off with his head locked still.”
The 23-year-old has been told he will not be offered a new contract by the Blues when his current terms are up in the summer.
