Released defender David Wright has thanked fans for supporting him during his three and a half years at the club. The former Wigan and Crewe man has been told his contract will not be renewed when it’s up at the end of June.
Wright told the club site: "I've had three fantastic years here and some great memories in that time. I've enjoyed a good relationship with the fans and been lucky enough to have had their support and I want to thank them for that.
"I came here to help Ipswich get in the Premier League though, so there is that sense of disappointment that I have not achieved that.
"I've got to think about the future now though. I'd like to find a club as soon as possible so that I can get my family settled before the new season gets under way."
Meanwhile, Newcastle United have been somewhat unconvincingly linked with Connor Wickham. The Magpies are understood to be relatively short of cash in the summer and are unlikely to spend what would be a significant proportion of their funds on a 17-year-old, while the Blues frontman would almost certainly not to want to move to St James' Park even if Town were willing to sell.
