Finidi Here Tonight And a Bid Turned Down - Ipswich Town News
Nigerian target Finidi George should be in Town tonight according to George Burley. The Real Mallorca player is set to fly in and have talks and a look around Portman Road.
Burley said: "He is a world-class player with the sort of quality I am looking for to add to the squad. It will be nice to see him, and he is very keen to come over."
However, Finidi has not been the only transfer on George Burley's mind. The Town boss has revealed that he has had a bid for a Premiership player turned down: "I made a bid for a Premiership player but it wasn't accepted. The club wanted to sell the player along with another as a package, rather than individually. We matched what they were asking for, but they decided not to accept, as another club has made an offer for both players".
Look out for the transfer of two Premership players from one club to another over the next few days to narrow the identity of Town's target down to two. Perhaps Jonathan Greening and Mark Wilsonfrom Manchester United who Burley has expressed an interest in and who are always touted to clubs together.
Burley, however, is still hopeful of increasing his squad: "It would be nice to add to the squad. I feel we need three or four players, but they have got to be the right ones. It's fingers crossed on Finidi, but I am still looking on other fronts".
George Burley has also confirmed that Keith Branagan has signed a new deal with the club. The former Bolton player has committed himself to Town for another two years.
