Town assistant manager target Brendan Rodgers is in the running to take over as boss at Portsmouth, according to Pompey’s administrator Andrew Andronikou. Rodgers is understood to be Roy Keane’s first choice as he looks for an assistant, while the ex-Reading and Watford manager is also set for talks regarding a role at Manchester City.
Andronikou says Rodgers is amongst a number of candidates to take over from Avram Grant: "We've had half a dozen come forward so far. Brendan Rodgers is a name that has been recommended to us by a third party. He is definitely in and around our thoughts.
"Steve Cotterill is another one. But I can say [current Portsmouth first team coach] Paul Groves has not thrown his hat into the ring - and nor do I expect him to.”
With Rodgers appearing increasingly sought after, Keane may be forced to look elsewhere for his deputy.
