Injured Could Return - Ipswich Town News

A number of Town's injured players could well return to action during the Irish tour. Five of those missing at the weekend will make the trip to Dublin tomorrow for two games.

Jim Magilton, Mark Venus, Andy Marshall, Pablo Counago and Tommy Miller all missed out on the 2-0 defeat to PSV, but it is hoped they may all take some part.

Town play Dublin City (formerly Home Farm) tomorrow night and Bray Wanderers on Thursday.

The players will be staying in Portmarnock and will train at the Athletic Union at Clonshaugh.

The team will return on Friday morning.

Amir Karic has been called up for the Slovenian squad for the game against Rumania in Ljubljana on August 15th.

Full squad: Mladen Dabanovic (Lokeren), Marko Simeunovic (Maribor), Spasoje Bulajic (FC Koeln), Aleksander Knavs (FC Kaiserslautern), Galic Marinko (Maribor), Muamer Vugdalic (Shakhtar Donetsk), Milenko Acimovic (Red Star Belgarade), Ales Ceh (GAK Graz), Sasa Gajser (Gent), Amir Karic (Ipswich Town), Dzoni Novak (Unterhaching), Zoran Pavlovic (Austria Memphis), Rajko Tavcar (Nuerenberg), Zlatko Zahovic (Benfica), Miran Pavlin (Porto), Sebastijan Cimirotic (Lecce), Milan Osterc (Hapoel Tel-Aviv), Mladen Rudonja (Portsmouth).

Fourth choice Town keeper James Pullen will have a week's trial with Blackpool with a view to spending a year on loan at Bloomfield Road.

Pullen joined Town from Heybridge Swifts two seasons ago and is yet to make a first team appearance, although he was on the bench in the Blackburn away game two years ago.

Romeo Zondervan has hailed Finidi George as a 30-year-old in a 23-year-old's body. Zondervan is the man who has tracked Finidi for Town and he is confident he has what it takes to succeed in the Premiership.

Zondervan said: "He has the energy of a young player striving to make it at the start of his career and he has exceptional talent. I have been sent to Spain to watch Finidi a few times and he is an excellent player. He may be 30, but he plays as though he is much younger. Finidi has great pace. He is a good all-rounder who is particularly dangerous down the right wing. He can play as an out-and-out winger or as a more orthodox midfield player."

The Town European Scout is impressed with not just Finidi's skills: "His vast skills really stand out, but what also impressed me very much about him was his attitude, his willingness to do plenty of hard work. He loves running and competing. I first saw him play in Holland when he was a key man in a very successful Ajax team. As the years have gone on he’s lost none of his appetite. Finidi is a tremendous athlete and has many more years left in him. If Ipswich can get him, and it looks as though they might, they will be getting a player who is very, very keen to become as big a success in the English Premiership as he has been in other leagues around the world."

Town hope the deal will be tied-up in the next few days with Finidi currently in Spain sorting a few details out with Real Mallorca.
