Celtic Closing in on Murphy - Ipswich Town News
Celtic are reported to have opened negotiations with Sunderland regarding the signing of former Town loanee Daryl Murphy. The Blues are also understood to be keen to add the Irish international to their striking options for next season.
Murphy is said to be interested in the move to Parkhead with a fee of £1.3 million claimed to be on the table in this morning's report, a figure significantly higher than the £900,000-£1 million which is believed to be Sunderland’s valuation of the 27-year-old, who is contracted until 2012.
Glasgow Rangers and Reading have also been linked with the former Waterford United man.
Celtic are also believed to be interested in another player mentioned in connection with Town this summer, Scunthorpe’s Gary Hooper, although Middlesbrough are reported to be the favourites to land the £2 million-rated ex-Grays Athletic striker.
