Town director and FA board member David Sheepshanks is backing England boss Fabio Capello, despite his side’s dreadful showing at the World Cup in South Africa. Sheepshanks and the rest of the FA board are set to meet to discuss Capello’s future next week.
Sheepshanks said: "Let's get this right. Fabio is tremendously able - one of the world's best managers - and a month ago I don't think you'd have heard many people disagree with that. He doesn't become a bad manager overnight.
"Knee-jerk reactions never work. There are some very, very able and wise people around the FA board table and I have absolute confidence that they will come up with the right decision.”
Fellow board member Phil Gartside, the Bolton chairman, and Sir Trevor Brooking, the FA's director of football development, have also backed Capello since England’s World Cup exit.
Town manager Roy Keane said on Monday that he felt the players were more to blame for England's early return home than Capello.
