Town Off to Histon Not Southend - Ipswich Town News

Town’s pre-season friendly at Southend on Friday has been cancelled and replaced with a game against Blue Square Premier side Histon at their Glassworld Stadium (KO 7.45pm).

Shrimpers boss Paul Sturrock, who was appointed yesterday, felt that he didn’t have sufficient players to fulfil the fixture with only nine senior professionals currently at Roots Hall.

Town club secretary Sally Webb told the official site: "Paul spoke to Roy [Keane] and told him that unfortunately he wasn't in a position to put out a competitive team.

"We've been in contact with Histon and they have kindly agreed to play us on Friday at short notice, which helps everyone out."

The Histon squad includes former Blue Antonio Murray, who recently returned to the Cambridgeshire club, and ex-academy players Erkan Okay and Callum Stewart.

The Stutes are managed by former Cambridge United boss John Beck. Entry costs £5 for adults and £1 for under-16s
