Boss Roy Keane says no much should be read into his use of a 4-3-3 formation in the two pre-season friendlies so far and which players have started the victories at Newmarket and Histon. Keane felt the 6-0 win at the Glassworld Stadium was another good run-out for his squad but that sterner challenges lie ahead.
The Town manager said: "It was a good workout for the players. They all got another 45 minutes. Luca’s had another half hour, so there are just positives and the strength of the opposition will improve next week when we play PSV.
"The whole point of the two games this week was as a fitness exercise. Credit to the opposition, they showed good fitness levels and got stuck into us. Don’t look too much into the team shape and the lads who were starting and who finished the game.
"It was just about giving every player 45 minutes under their belts. Don’t over analyse it.”
Keane says that his players returned from their holidays without putting on too many pounds and so far everyone has avoided picking up any niggles: "Most modern footballers when they have a good break they come back in shape and there was never an issue last year with our boys.
"We’ve been back for almost two weeks now and fingers crossed we’ve had no injuries and hopefully that will continue.”
The pre-season programme continues today when a reserves side faces Hadleigh at their Millfield ground (KO 3pm).
