Ablett Should Sign Over Weekend - Ipswich Town News

Blues boss Roy Keane hopes new coach Gary Ablett will sign his contract over the weekend. Former Liverpool and Everton defender Ablett joined up with the Blues last week after Ian ‘Charlie’ McParland decided not to return to Portman Road for family reasons.

Keane said: "We hope something will be finalised over the next few days. Gary has come on board and we need extra numbers on the coaching side. Charlie McParland did a great job but because of family commitments he couldn’t commit to the club.

"I know Gary a little bit from [studying for] my Pro Licence and he worked with [fitness coach] Antonio Gomez at Liverpool.

"He’s a good lad and a good coach and hopefully that will be finalised in the next few days. We just have a few minor details to sort out on Gary’s contract and hopefully that will be sorted over the weekend.”

Ablett was previously a youth coach at Everton and took control of the reserves at Liverpool, before managing Stockport last season. The 44-year-old left Edgeley Park last month.
