Norris: Hyam Not Overawed By Step Up - Ipswich Town News

Midfielder David Norris says youngster Luke Hyam doesn’t look out of place amongst his senior colleagues. The 18-year-old impressed when coming off the bench at PSV on Saturday, taking up the holding midfield role.

Norris, the Blues skipper at the Philips Stadion, says Hyam, who is yet to make his competitive first team debut, hasn’t appeared overawed when joining in with the senior squad: "He’s a quietly confident lad. He gets on with it, keeps himself to himself, but he’s a good lad, a good pro and even when he trains with us he’s never fazed, never looks like it bothers him too much, he just gets on with it and does a good job.”

Hyam has an aggressive side to his game, something which was evident on Saturday when a tackle angered some of the PSV players and drew a booking from the referee. Norris says he is well aware of Hyam’s solid challenges: "I’ve been on the receiving end of some of them in training, so I know he’s a hard tackler. He did what I thought was a great tackle at PSV, just a good, hard, solid tackle and that’s what he’s about.”

The former Northgate High School pupil is likely to be involved in the friendlies against West Ham and Spurs and will probably make his competitive senior bow in the Carling Cup tie at Exeter on August 10th.
