Football v Cricket v Speedway - Ipswich Town News

Jon Walters will captain the Town side when they face Ipswich and East Suffolk at Twenty20 cricket at Chantry Park on Friday (6.15pm). There is also cricketing action at Chantry Park on Wednesday evening when the Ipswich Witches speedway team take on a Media XI in a match organised to raise funds for former Witch Kim Jansson.

Friday’s match will raise funds for the Suffolk Cancer Campaign, one of the club’s nominated charities. Entrance will be free with car parking via the London Road entrance. Refreshments will be available, while there will be a bouncy castle and other attractions for younger fans.

Skipper Walters, reportedly the subject of interest from QPR, says the squad contains few cricketing stars but that they will try their best: "We've not got too many cricketers in our team but we will give it a go.

"The game is for a very worthy cause. Hopefully the weather will stay fine, there will be a good crowd and we can hit some sixes."

A limited edition supply of charity miniature cricket bats will be on sale at £10 each with the Town players available to sign them, with one or two autographs already in place.

Ipswich and East Suffolk are auctioning the opportunity to face the Blues in Friday’s game with more details here. Town were previously in cricketing action during pre-season in 2007 and 2008.

On Wednesday the likes of Chris Louis, Scott Nicholls, Daniel King and Poles Robert Miskowiak and Dawid Stachyra will be playing another Twenty20 match against a Media XI with proceeds going to paralysed former Witches rider Kim Jansson, who is flying over especially for the game (6.15pm).
