McAuley in Northern Ireland Squad - Ipswich Town News

Town defender Gareth McAuley has been named in the Northern Ireland squad for their friendly with Montenegro in Podgorica on Wednesday 11th August. McAuley, who plays right-back for his national side, has previously won 22 caps, scoring one goal.

The call-up means the former skipper will miss Town’s Caring Cup tie at Exeter the previous day, although it’s likely he would have been amongst a number of senior players rested in any case.

Meanwhile, McAuley, who netted Town's goal at Bury on Wednesday, is reported to be a potential target of Bristol City, although the Robins are believed to be close to to signing QPR's Damion Stewart and it's unlikely that the Northern Irishman would be interested in leaving Portman Road for Ashton Gate.

Northern Ireland: Taylor (Birmingham), Tuffey (Inverness), Carson (Sunderland), J Evans (Man Utd), Craigan (Motherwell), McGivern (Man City), McAuley (Ipswich), Hughes (Fulham), Little (Rangers), Baird (Fulham), McCann (Peterborough), Brunt (WBA), Gorman (Wolves), C Evans (Man Utd), Norwood (Man Utd), Davis (Rangers), Clingan (Coventry), Healy (Sunderland), Feeney (Oldham), Lafferty (Rangers), M Paterson (Burnley), R Patterson (Plymouth).
