Celtic boss Neil Lennon has revealed that defender Darren O’Dea is set to join the Blues on loan. Town manager Roy Keane said on Thursday that he was looking to add a young loan defender to his squad.
Lennon says O’Dea, primarily a left-sided centre-half but who can also operate at left-back, wants to play first team football more regularly: "He doesn't want to be a squad player, he wants to play and I can't guarantee him that.
"Ipswich have made an enquiry to take him on loan, so there is a possibility he will be down there on Monday.
"Ipswich have given him the opportunity to go and play and I think it will be good for him to get some games under his belt because we're bringing in other people allied to the ones we've got."
Former Irish U21 international O’Dea, 23, was previously linked with the Blues in 2008 during Jim Magilton’s time as manager, although the reports were dismissed by the Northern Irishman.
The 6ft 1in tall Dubliner made eight appearances while on loan at Reading last season.
