Martin Liking Life at Charlton - Ipswich Town News
On-loan midfielder Lee Martin says he would love to join League One Charlton permanently if Town don’t want to keep him. The former Manchester United man has made a promising start to his Addicks career, scoring his first goal in last week’s Carling Cup defeat to Shrewsbury.
Martin said: "If I’m not wanted at Ipswich I would love to be at Charlton. In the two weeks I’ve been here I’ve felt more wanted than I did in my year at Ipswich. I’m enjoying my football and I’m looking forward to training."
Speaking shortly after the 23-year-old moved on loan to the Valley, Town boss Roy Keane said that the Blues could reassess Martin’s situation halfway through the season, hinting that he could be recalled if he impresses: "We were happy for Lee to go there to resurrect things because it’s gone a bit flat for Lee since he’s come here.
"He’ll get a run of games there and we’ll see how it pans out. We can look at it again in January.”
Martin joined Town from Manchester United last summer for a fee somewhere around the £1.6 million mark, signing a deal until 2013 on wages understood to be in the region of £13,000-a-week, much of which the Blues are likely to continue to be paying during his time with Charlton.
