Town Confirm Pablo\'s Palace Loan - Ipswich Town News
Town have confirmed Pablo Couñago’s season-long loan move to Crystal Palace. The Spaniard, whose contract at Portman Road is up at the end of the season, will not be able to play for his new club against the Blues at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Couñago’s move brings to a close the striker’s nine-year connection with the Blues. Palace boss George Burley brought the 31-year-old to Portman Road from Celta Vigo in the summer of 2001 after being impressed with him in action for Spain’s U21s in a friendly against England in which he scored twice.
Having had a less than harmonious relationship with Joe Royle, Couñago returned to Spain and Malaga in the summer of 2005, before Jim Magilton brought him back to Town in the summer of 2007.
In total, Couñago made 147 starts and 95 sub appearances for Town, scoring 62 goals.
