Boss Roy Keane says striker Tamás Priskin is more settled at the club this year and is pleased with the Hungarian’s performances so far. Priskin netted his first home goal for the Blues on Saturday to set Town on their way to their 2-0 victory over Bristol City.
Keane said: "Tamás is a talented boy. We work with the boy every day and we looked at him before he came to the club. Sometimes, particularly strikers, need a bit of luck and let’s be honest, when he came to the club last year we weren’t exactly flying or playing with loads of confidence.
"Strikers need to be getting chances all the time. Tamás had some last year, but it didn’t work out for him, but he got his chance up at Middlesbrough and took it, he scored today, had a hand in the other goal and was unlucky with another shot which went just past the post.
"Tamás is a talented boy,” Keane continued, "but like any player at the club, we always want that bit more and there’s more to come from Tamás. He’s still young and I think the hardest position on the field is striker. I’d love to say midfield because I played there, but I think striker’s a hard role at a football club.
"He’s settled into the football club now and I think Márton Fülöp coming in has helped him, he’s comfortable with Márton. We’re pleased with Tamás, he’s a good player.”
The Blues boss says Priskin’s fellow frontman Jason Scotland benefited from the Carling Cup tie at Crewe in midweek: "I think the run-out the other night helped him, it gave him a feel for the club and the players.”
"I think there’s more to his game than just [sniffing out goals], I think his hold-up play was decent. But there’s a lot more to come from Jason, remember he didn’t play a lot of football at Wigan in pre-season because he didn’t seem to be in the manager’s plans.
"So,there’s a lot more to come from Jason and Tamás, and hopefully over the next few weeks we might have some of our injured boys back. But I still think we’re short of players. I’m glad we go into the break with no more injuries or suspensions.”
Keane is also delighted that his other Trinidadian is becoming increasingly influential: "Carlos got married for a second time in the summer, maybe we should all get married twice, it’s probably cost him a few quid but he’s come back with a spring in his step!”
The Town manager says the trials and tribulations of pre-season have ended up helping the squad: "The expectations will obviously rise and you have to deal with that and enjoy it. When we came back for pre-season there was a lot of negativity around the club, players leaving, players not signing, targets all ready to sign but deals not getting done.
"But I think it’s worked in our favour, we came back for pre-season and we didn’t exactly go anywhere exotic. We hoped to go to Portugal and Spain [for warm weather training], but budgets were in place and we ended up going to Felixstowe. But it’s created a spirit amongst the players.”
Keane reiterated that he doesn’t expect any moves in or out before the transfer window closes on Tuesday: "There’ll be no strengthening at the club over the next 48 hours.”
