Leicester Linked With Delaney - Ipswich Town News

Leicester City are interested in Town centre-half Damien Delaney, according to a report in the Midlands. Delaney spent two years with the Foxes at the start of his English career having been bought from hometown club Cork City for £50,000 in 2000.

Leicester are reportedly set to make a £2 million offer for Swansea’s Ashley Williams but if they fail with that bid are said to be ready to turn to Delaney.

The Irishman, who joined Town for £750,000 from QPR in the summer of 2009, has missed the start of the season with a thigh injury suffered in training. Like Connor Wickham and Mark Kennedy, Delaney could be back in the squad after the international break.

Despite Tommy Smith’s excellent performances during the 29-year-old’s absence and loanee Darren O’Dea also being comfortable as a left-sided centre-half, the Blues would be unlikely to sell the 6ft 3in tall defender.

The transfer window closes today at 6pm with Town boss Roy Keane not expecting any more departures or any additions to his squad.
