McAuley and Northern Ireland Win - Ipswich Town News
Defender Gareth McAuley won his 23rd full cap as Northern Ireland began their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win in Slovenia. The former Town skipper played the full 90 minutes for Nigel Worthington’s side.
Manchester United's Corry Evans netted a 70th minute winner to give the Northern Irish their first victory in 10 matches and end a seven-match goal drought.
Elsewhere, Tamás Priskin played the last half hour for Hungary and won his 28th cap as his side lost their opening qualifier 2-0 in Sweden. Town keeper Márton Fülöp remained on the bench throughout.
Defender Darren O’Dea was left out of the Republic of Ireland matchday squad which won 1-0 in Armenia. The on-loan Celtic man had been expected to be on the bench despite picking up a knee injury earlier in the week.
Midfielder Conor Hourihane won his second Republic of Ireland U21 cap as his side lost a European Championships qualifier 1-0 in Switzerland. Town team-mate Shane O’Connor was left out of the squad having been called into the travelling party at the last minute.
Jaime Peters and the Canadian senior side are in action in a friendly against Peru on Saturday.
