UEFA president Michel Platini has agreed to write a foreword to the new book about the Blues’ finest ever campaign, 1980-81 The Greatest Season in Ipswich Town’s History. Written by the club’s former PRO, Mel Henderson, the book is due to be published in November.
French legend Platini, who played against the Blues during that season for St Etienne, was happy to contribute: "As someone who witnessed Ipswich Town’s stylish approach at first hand I am proud and privileged to have been asked to pen the foreword to this celebratory publication.”
Neil Prentice from publishers White Space Design is delighted that the three times European Player of the Year has agreed to be involved: "Michel Platini was our very ambitious first choice to provide the foreword to this book. We are really pleased that he has agreed and I think this adds real prestige to the publication.”
Supporters pre-ordering by 30th September are being offered the chance to have their names listed in the book, which looks in exceptional depth at the season in which Town won the UEFA Cup and just missed out on a treble.
The first 1,981 copies of 1980-81 The Greatest Season in Ipswich Town’s History, which features interviews with all the players, Sir Bobby Robson and Bobby Ferguson, as well as Mick Mills’s top ten matches and top ten goals from the season, are being produced with a commemorative Sir Bobby Robson sleeve.
