Burley Still Refusing to Comment - Ipswich Town News

George Burley is still refusing to comment on reports that Matteo Sereni is on his way to Portman Road. When the story first broke on Monday Burley refused to either confirm or deny the story and it seems he is continuing to take the same line until the deal is done.

As many sources were reporting the deal done and dusted Burley said: "I can't confirm these reports. I am not going to say one way or another who we are looking at, we won't say anything about a player until he has agreed to sign. We have looked at a lot of players and we are working hard to bring someone else in."

Burley has been looking at a number of players and doesn't want to get involved in what he sees as speculation: "We looked at a number of different players in different countries, I am not getting involved in any of the speculation which is all these reports are at the moment. We have talked about signing players before and other clubs have stepped in, so we won't be saying anything at the moment."

Burley is clearly wary of another Hassan Kachloul situation, but with Italian sources saying the deal is all but done it does appear that Matteo Sereni will be on his way to Portman Road.

It has emerged that Sereni was initially not interested in a move to Town, however his agent and his club seem to have persuaded him that a move to Portman Road is the best move for all concerned. The Serie B club are short of money and need to cash in on assets like Sereni, as well as reducing their wage bill.
