Juventus Also in for Sereni - Ipswich Town News

Reports this afternoon say Juventus may also be in for Matteo Sereni. Earlier Fiorentina were reported to have made a new bid for te keeper, a player they have been tracking for some while.

Elsewhere there are widespread reports that the deal with Town is done and dusted, but with the player only due at Portman Road late today this seems premature.

TWTD has learnt that Town coach Tony Mowbray was in Amsterdam on Sunday. We're not sure of any target, or even which game he might have attended, although the big game in Holland was Johan Cruyff Trophy, the Dutch Charity Shield.

PSV beat FC Twente at the Amsterdam ArenA 3-2 in that game. With PSV impressive at Portman Road last week there could be any number of players interesting Town. The only name previously likned is Dennis Rommedahl, but Burley denied any interest and with Finidi about to sign another right-wing purchase seems unlikely.

As for FC Twente the only name familiar to English eyes is Scotsman Scott Booth.

Icelandic sources say that Town are to take 21-year-old FC Fram defender Eggert Stefansson on trial.

We've had an email forwarded to us by the Supporters' Club regarding Finidi George's goal celebrations. Andrew Smith, a Real Betis supporter, mailed them asking Town fans to continue a Betis tradition.

Andrew wrote: "The reason why I am writing to you is to tell you about an old tradition that the Betis fans had, and that was subsequently continued by the Mallorca fans. Whenever Finidi scored a goal, someone in the crowd would give him a hat to wear whilst celebrating with his team mates. It was always funny seeing him run towards the bench or his team mates wearing a hat. On one occasion he wore three hats in one day: Hat-trick!!!!! Seriously, please please give him a hat to wear when ever he scores! He loves it!"

I'm sure we can, although I'm not sure whether there has been any Premiership clarification on whether wearing a hat whilst in a post-goal celebration counts as 'over-celebrating'. Apparently cowboy hats are Finidi's preference, but I'm sure he'd be happy with a hand-knitted blue and white bobble job.
