Keane: Nothing But Positives - Ipswich Town News

Boss Roy Keane said there were nothing but positives to be taken from the 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Millwall. The Blues manager, who is expecting news on his targeted loan signing in the next couple of days, says a number of the fringe players involved against the Lions have pressed their claim for inclusion at Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Keane said: "There were nothing but pluses for us. Another good finish from Tamás. I thought Reggie did well, Luke did well, Tom Eastman did well, Jaime in the middle of the park. A good game from Andros as well tonight.

"Damien Delaney got 90 minutes under his belt, Mark Kennedy did as well. Murphy did well in goal and I don’t think anyone’s really picked up any injuries tonight.

"Some players have held their hand up and said ‘I want to get involved on Saturday’, which is a good situation for me.”

Keane felt the Lions gave his team a tough evening: "The third goal was always going to dictate how the game was going to finish in the last 20 minutes. Credit to Millwall, they made it hard for us but we’re glad to be through.”

The Blues boss, who unsurprisingly would like a home draw in the next round, says there could be news on his targeted loanee in the next couple of days: "Judging by the results of other clubs tonight, I’d hope to have news on the player we’re interested in because of their result. I’d hope we’ll have positive news on that tomorrow or Thursday.”

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett thought his side were a touch unfortunate to be defeated: "We showed some spirit tonight and I think on the overall balance of the game we were unlucky to lose.

"We started the game very well and created several chances. Ipswich scored the first goal against the run of play and we lost our way after that for the rest of the half.

"It was a very poor and sloppy second goal straight from a freekick and that doubled the task. We needed to get in at 1-0 down. On the balance of play and the chances we would have been unlucky to go in 1-0 down at half-time.

"We showed some spirit in the second half,” Jackett continued, "but we perhaps made the wrong decisions. However, we showed some spirit and we put some pressure on Ipswich and if you’re going to lose, that’s the way to go down — playing with some spirit and competing.”
