Townsend: We Targeted Brucey Bonus - Ipswich Town News

On-loan winger Andros Townsend says his team-mates told him that former Blue Alex Bruce was likely to dive in if the Spurs man kept running at him ahead of Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Leeds. Townsend took their advice and Bruce was red-carded for two bookable fouls on the 19-year-old.

Townsend said: "All the players had been telling me before the match about Brucey. They told me to keep getting at him as it would lead him to dive in.

"Luckily it worked out for us as Leeds going down to 10 men had a big influence on the outcome of the game.

"It was frightening how we galvanised after the Leeds leveller and the determination we showed to get back in front again.”

Meanwhile, Bruce had no arguments regarding his second booking once he'd had a look at the video footage after the match: "When it happened I thought I got a touch of the ball for the second yellow, but after seeing a replay I could see that I didn’t.”

Elsewhere, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham are reportedly chasing Town reserve coach Chris Kiwomya’s 14-year-old nephew Alex, who is currently with Rotherham United’s youth set-up.
