Naylor in the Dock - Ipswich Town News

Town striker Richard Naylor will face an FA disciplinary committee today and answer the Birmingham City claim that he headbutted Darren Purse in the game at Portman Road in September.

The incident saw Purse collapse dramatically to the ground during a penalty area melee with the referee taking no action.

Trevor Francis, who was hardly in the best place to see the incident, complained to the FA and Naylor was charged.

Purse is claiming he was the victim of a malicious headbutt, whilst Naylor claims that any contact was accidental. Naylor could find himself missing several games if found guilty. If he is found innocent we wonder whether action will be taken against Purse for play-acting. We very much doubt it.

Town reserve keeper Mike Salmon will train tomorrow and still hopes to be fit for the match against Tranmere on Friday. Salmon injured his back in training last week and hasn't trained since. Richard Wright misses out as he is with the U21 squad.

Town's other injury worries Matt Holland, David Johnson and James Scowcroft are at varying levels of recovery. The two strikers both resumed light training yesterday and look likely to take some part in Friday's game. Holland still has heavy bandaging on his calf and looks extremely doubtful for the Tranmere game. If he does regain fitness for the visit of the Birkenhead club he will subsequently join the Ireland squad for the play-off second leg.
