Wickham Wins Cap as England Lose - Ipswich Town News
Striker Connor Wickham won his third England U19 cap but failed to add to his debut goal as his side lost their final European Championships qualifying group game 2-1 to hosts Belgium this afternoon.
The 17-year-old played the full 90 minutes and won an early penalty, which was missed by Liverpool's Jonjo Shelvey, having been rested for all but the last 14 minutes of the second match, a 4-0 victory over Cyprus. The Blues striker had started and scored in the 6-1 opening game victory over Albania.
England had already secured their place in next spring’s elite phase of qualifying prior to today’s game.
Wickham is likely to be back at Town tomorrow ahead of Saturday's home game against Coventry City.
