Northern Irish Trio Win Caps - Ipswich Town News
Academy trio Caolan Lavery (pictured), Rory McKeown and Josh Carson all won caps as Northern Ireland’s U19s beat Andorra 2-1 in the final game of their European Championships qualifying group in Germany this afternoon.
A goal five minutes into injury time won the game for the Northern Irishmen, three minutes after they had been reduced to 10 men.
Defender McKeown was handed his first start of the mini-tournament with striker or midfielder Lavery also in the XI which began the game. The former Canadian U17 international was replaced by Town team-mate Josh Carson in only the 38th minute. The midfielder, who was on the bench for the Town first team at Exeter earlier in the season, had started the previous two matches.
The victory wasn’t enough to take the Northern Irish youngsters through to the elite phase of qualifying with Switzerland gaining second place in the group after drawing 2-2 with Germany in today’s other game.
