New Town keeper Matteo Sereni has joined on a four-year contract with the club officially refusing to reveal the fee, thought to be £5 million.

Speaking about the new signing george Burley said: "We are very pleased Matteo has agreed to sign for us. He is one of the finest young keepers in Italy and at the age of 26 he is still improving. I spoke to Sven-Goran Eriksson about him and his assistant Tord Grip and they both spoke very highly of him. I saw him play in Italy last weekend an was immediately impressed with his agility and his manner. He is a big character on and off the field, has very good reactions, and is a good kicker. He has everything it takes to be a top keeper."

Matteo, who soeaks some English said: "The Ipswich club is a good club. This is an important season for me and I am very, very happy. In the future I hope to become an important person for this club. I am happy to be here even if other Italian clubs come for me".

Town will include both Sereni and Finidi George in the squad for Sunderland, although they are still awaiting international clearance for them. This needs to be received by 5pm today.
