Town manager Roy Keane says he’s not surprised that former Blues midfielder Liam Trotter is having a successful season with Millwall, who are at Portman Road this afternoon. The 22-year-old has been a regular for the Lions after joining them for an undisclosed fee in the summer and was recently linked with Premier League Sunderland.
Keane says that the Ipswich-born player’s success comes as no shock to him: "We knew that Trots is a good player and he’s having a very good season with Millwall.
"We offered him a contract in the summer, but having said that sometimes a player needs a change of scenery. Particularly when players come up through the ranks and they’ve been here a long time. Who’s to say if Trots had stayed here he might not have kicked on like he has?
"I always liked Trots, I thought Trots never let us down. He’s a young man learning his trade and he’s gone on to a new level with Millwall, which we knew he would.
"There’s no surprise that he’s doing well, he’s a good player and we’ll have to keep an eye on him.”
