Roy Keane says he was telling people to “relax and chill out” and was by no means panicking after the Blues’ three successive league defeats. Town got back to winning ways with the 3-1 victory over Northampton in the Carling Cup and Saturday’s 2-0 league win against Millwall.
Keane says he wasn’t getting overly concerned during the poor run: "It’s been a better week than last week but even when we had three defeats I certainly wasn’t panicking. I thought our performances weren’t that bad, we gave some daft goals away.
"Two victories this week and the players have done well, but we’ve got a good bunch. Going to Forest was always going to be a hard game. Watford and Coventry were a couple of games from which we should have got something, two draws maybe.
"But as usual everyone was panicking and getting worried. I keep telling people to relax and chill out.”
The Blues boss was pleased with his defence during the Millwall game: "I thought the back four were outstanding, young Tom, Tommy Smith at left-back. We’ve got four centre-halves in our back four and they’re all doing well.
"We’d always like a bit more going forward but they’re getting stuck in for us and we’re missing other players with injuries. We’re pleased with the clean sheet, we’ve not had a clean sheet for a while.”
Keane also had praise for his strikers, including sub Connor Wickham, the subject of unfounded newspaper claims on Sunday: "I thought Tamás did well. I thought young Connor and Ronan did well when they came on as well.
"Jason’s now scored five goals for us, poacher’s goals, shall we say. He probably should have scored in the second half, but credit to their keeper, it was a good save.
"Jack had a great chance, Jake had a good chance. We could have scored four or five but, having said that, Millwall had some good chances as well. Let’s not think it was all one-way traffic.”
