Keane Hopes McAuley Will Be At Town For The Long Haul - Ipswich Town News
Central defensive linchpin Gareth McAuley is set to make his 100th appearance for Town at Sheffield United today with his manager Roy Keane hoping that he’ll play many more matches for the club. Keane has revealed that the Blues have received several offers for the Northern Irish international.
The 30-year-old, who joined Town from Leicester City for £1.1 million in the summer of 2008, has impressed Keane in his time at Portman Road: "He’s been one of our most consistent performers this year, particularly earlier in the season when for one or two big games we were missing one or two important players.
"Gareth’s done well, we’re pleased with Gareth, he’s a good player. He’s a good professional. I hope he goes on to play many more games for us.”
Keane says he has received offers for the one-time Lincoln City man but hopes he’ll remain with Town for some time to come: "Loads, but we were determined to keep him. Gareth, hopefully, is going nowhere.”
McAuley is one of 21 Town players out of contract at the end of the season.
