Carson Surprised to Get U21 Chance So Soon - Ipswich Town News
Academy midfielder Josh Carson says he hadn’t expected to be called up to the Northern Ireland U21 squad having only broken into the U19 squad this season. Carson and Town team-mate Caolan Lavery are in the party taking on Scotland at Partick Thistle’s Firhill on Wednesday.
Carson told the club site: "I wasn't expecting the call. I was over in Germany with the U19s and it was brilliant and I really enjoyed it. I must have done OK to get the call.
"Playing with the U21s, you are playing with better players. Playing for Northern Ireland will give me a boost and hopefully I can use the experience to help me push on."
Boss Roy Keane has already shown that Carson has been impressing him when he named him on the bench for the Carling Cup tie at Exeter earlier in the season: "He’s a good player, he’s doing well. We think he’s got a chance but it will be up to the boy himself, it’ll have nothing to do with me or you, it’s up to him.”
